Parent Outraged by Manga in Children’s Book Section
![]()
A mother in Lexington, South Carolina, is in shock after finding an issue of an “inappropriate” manga, featuring a “naked man” on the cover, in the Children’s books section in a Books-A-Million store. The manga is “Absolute Boyfriend”, a Shoujo by Manga-ka Yuu Watase, about a girl who goes online to look for the perfect boyfriend. After the incident, the store is moving the manga section away from the Kids area.

Overreacting parents suck. I love Zettai Kareshi!

Yup. I think parents nowadays overreact when they see the first sight of anime or manga. It’s getting worse this time around… Back in the early 90s when anime started to get attention in the US, it was labeled “Too Hot for TV!” or “Absolutely not for Children!”. That was true (and still is), but some of the anime that had that warning was rated G or PG. Take Dragonball (not Z or GT), for instance. It does have nudity and toilet humor in it, but it passed as a children’s show in Japan. We have Spongebob Squarepants, and that has basically the same content, and no one is complaining about it. I guess it’s just a case of culture clash.

Ugh! that sucks ! Yuu Watase is one of the best mangaka EVER! and heck, they can show stupid cartoons and movies to kids and their kids buy hentai mags and stuff for themselves and they don’t even know about it but they get pissed when their kids read manga that might knock some sense into their heads -.-
I went and commented on that story and realized mine is the ONLY comment there… sigh… stupid people these days… I got so much to say on this matter but oh wells -.-…
Thans for this post, I at least got a chance to say out loud what I had in mind after seeing such stupidity spreading and stupid comments towards my fave mangaka’s manga >.>

The mother was overreacting a bit. It’s not like any NC-17 stuff is showing on the cover and the kid would be too young to know it’s suppose to be offensive or erotic. Still, the store should have known Manga is for all ages, not just kids and checked the backs to make sure the books were for kids 10 and under before putting it in the children’s section. Reminds me of when Cool World came out and parents were upset about some of the adult themes in the movie when they took they’re kids to it. They should have been responsible enough themselves to find out more about what the movie is about and at least check the rating before taking a kid to it even if it does have cartoons. Going in blindly and acting like it’s all the theater’s fault when just looking at the rating would have warned them it wasn’t for kids is hypocritical.
