Looking back at the posts I imported from my Blogger blog of my Blood Elf Warlock, I found that all of them were too brief and not worth reading for a few sentences. Now that 2008 is here, I decided to compile all of the events that occurred while I journeyed through Azeroth and Outland for the first time, in three parts. Some of the original entries are quoted in this post for nostalgic value; recorded as it happened. As I recap the events that occurred, the original posts are no longer to be found. They are split into three, read-worthy parts for your viewing pleasure. Better than wasting three seconds reading a few words, isn’t it? :)

Part one of my Azeroth/Outland journey begins here!

The Journey to Outland Begins

In March, I began keeping tabs on my journey since I created my Blood Elf Warlock. From then on, I continued to post updates, but unfortunately, they didn’t make it to the new blog (the one you see before you) as they were too short to be worth reading as a “Progress Journal”. I can recall some of the events that happened before I went to Outland, such as an encounter with a “ignorant” player in Thousand Needles; ignorant as in a botter who would not buff me but himself:

One Friday evening, I grouped with a Blood Elf Paladin over at 1KN while I was questing around the Mirage Raceway. I greeted him with a hello–but I did not get a response back. Did I say something wrong?

Fast-forward–I went to slay some birds to get a bone chip for a quest I wanted to finish. I noticed something odd…He did not help me out in defeating the fiend. Why? Well, I think I had a good ideal why he did not help me. 1) He would always buff himself and not me (with the exception of Devotion Aura), 2) Read above, 3) He did not say anything the whole time during the grouping, and 4) He disbanded the party before killing one more Saltstone Gazer for me to finish the “A Bump in the Road” quest, without asking how many more I needed.

I went on my own to finish up a few more quests and went to bed. I thought about it the following afternoon. I wondered if I should report him…I did. The next morning, I got an e-mail saying they took the usual actions. Meaning he should not be on the server anymore, the whole game at that.

A friendly reminder: Don’t Bot and Drive. ;)

Kick the Gnome

Along the way of my usual progress updates, I stumbled upon a YTMND of a World of Warcraft/Dance Dance Revolution Mashup. I suggested that I would make a macro to use after I pwn an Alliance player, but I found out that it would do no good as using a custom macro will result in “a strange gesture” to the opposite faction.Around level 40, was I just about done with Stranglethorn Vale. I did one of the last few quests involving STV, Grim Message. I went to the Troll camp, southeast of the Alliance town, Aerie Peak, to collect Witherbark Skulls. While I was minding my own business, a Rogue sneaked up and ganked me, [as usual]. Running back to my corpse, I could hear the sound of a stealth ability; the Rogue was near a tree, waiting for me to revive myself so he could harass me with his Kidney Shot. I stood there for a few seconds, wondering what should I do. Should I call for help? Should I find the closest Horde outpost and use the Spirit Healer, or Just log off for a few minutes until he went away? I didn’t want to do either of them, so I revived and ran as far away as possible. Since it was night time, I figured he couldn’t see me well, besides my player tag glowing red to him. Boy, was I wrong…

With no help from the Horde in the neighboring Hillsbrad Foothills, I ran all the way from The Hinterlands to Arathi Highlands. During the getaway, the rouge used (pardon my lack of knowledge of the class’ abilities except Kidney Shot and Stealth) a skill that drew me towards him. He did it a few times to make me want to report him for Harassment. The GM usually doesn’t handle PvP situations, unless something like this were to happen…

Eventually, I lost him. I came near an Orc player, [who was guildless], and dismounted to use my Hearthstone to get the hell out of there, just in case. Suddenly, the Rogue came out of nowhere and ganked the Orc, and then myself. I was really frustrated to play anymore that night, all thanks to an griefer. I waited for the Orc to revive so we could fight him together, but it dawned on me that the Orc was a bot; he revived only to eat and drink so he could keep fighting mobs for EXP. The Rogue started camping the Orc, while I made my getaway to Hammerfall, where I logged off for the night. A night of playtime, ruined, because of a lifeless Gnome.

Gnomes…I can’t stand them! Sure, they’re “cute”, but when you’re not looking, they backstab you (no pun intended). They all want to be a bunch of Rogues and set out to harass people, despite of their appearance. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Just when you thought it was all over…

Moving on to when times were better – or in the next case: worse – I came across yet another self indulgent Alliance in Searing Gorge. It was a Night Elf Hunter who used Serpent Sting on me as I stood next to Kalaran Windblade. I was hoping he didn’t hurt me and just do his round of quest, but I was deeply disappointed by his actions. A Level 70 Shaman, who I became friends with shortly after starting WoW, was in the area at the time of the attack. My friend searched all over the Gorge for the Hunter. Unfortunately, he was long gone. I was left bitter.

The next night, I got my revenge as the very same Hunter happened to approach us during a briefing with my Level 70 Shaman friend on what quests to do at the Un’goro Crater. We chased him all over the place, punishing him not only once, but three times! We left him alone after judging him for the evil deed he committed. Not long after the punishment, a Level 70 and another player around my level, both Alliance, went at us and tore us apart.

I wonder if it had something to do with us punishing the Hunter who unwittingly used Serpent Sting on me, or was it just the usual ganking? No problem; the Hunter was justified enough.

At last…The Dark Portal!

I flew by levels 45 to 57 after a month of dodging careless Alliance players…

At 57, I started out with 120k remaining. I didn’t start playing until 2 AM and I usually stop at 5-6 AM, depending on the conditions. I decided to play until 8 AM or until I got level 58. I did a few quests at the Eastern Plaguelands but the EXP was bad now since I finished all the major quests. I went to Silithus, where I spent the last two hours getting to level 58. I completed two quests that left me with 3 bubbles in 57. I ended up grinding on other monsters rather than searching around for 20 giant snakes for Stepping Up Security, until I found a Silithyst Geyser for Scouring the Desert.

After bringing a small victory for the Horde, all I was left with was 160 EXP. There was only one monster left to kill. On a side note: the day I entered Outland was the day Starcraft 2 was announced at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea.

I could have stayed in Silithus and go to the other Western Plaguelands to get 60, but I took my friends’ advice and went at 58. It’s a bit tough getting to 58-60 in Outland, but I was level 60 within a few hours after going straight for all the easy quests in Hellfire Peninsula (with a bodyguard in tow). That concludes the first part of the World of Warcraft Adventure Log Recap. In part two, it’s all about Outland.
