Speculations on the Next Bleach Movie

The first Bleach movie, “Memories of Nobody”, was acquired by Viz for a North American release in theaters his Summer and on DVD in the Winter. The second Bleach movie, “The Diamond Dust Rebellion”, is no longer in theaters in Japan and DVD release is assumed to be “around the corner”, thanks to a certain group of fans (hint: “Believe it!” in Japanese) we all know and don’t love. While we are waiting for the next Bleach movie to be released, let’s speculate, shall we? ^_^

Warning: May contain mild spoilers.

Hitsugaya ToushirouI do not exactly know when the next Bleach movie will be released, but we’re due for an announcement. The fifth Naruto film got the thumbs up for a summer release…what about us Bleachers? The Diamond Dust Rebellion will probably get a DVD release around the same time Memories of Nobody came out, which was in September of 2007. In the second movie, it focuses on Captain of Squad 10, Toshirou Hitsugaya. The first movie had the camera on Ichigo the whole time, of course, seeing that the lead characters get all the attention in the first movie of a series…

Kuchiki ByakuyaWhat’s going to happen in the third movie? Since Hitsugaya got plenty of screen time in Diamond Dust Rebellion, maybe we will get to see other captains that need more explanation. One in particular is Captain of Squad 6, Byakuya Kuchiki. He’s the second most important character in the series, in my opinion, at least. He’s the “brother” of Rukia Kuchiki. When we first saw Byakuya, he was a total jerk, especially when it came to punishing his sister for staying in the world of the living for too long. At the end of the Soul Society arc, he reveals tells Rukia on why he acted so cold towards her and forgave her for the trouble he caused. His explanation wasn’t enough to put him aside for so long while we keep seeing Hitsugaya in just about every episode. The good thing about Hitsugaya is that we don’t know much about his past and [hopefully], Diamond Dust Rebellion will explain all of that. ;)

Perhaps the next movie will be about Rukia rather than Byakuya, but he will be by her side, of course. There are more Bleach characters that could have a movie of their own, but they aren’t popular enough, yet. A few names come to mind: Uryuu (though he had a whole arc to himself), Chad (already has a story and plenty of time in Hueco Mundo), Orihime (but she’s getting TONS of screen time in the current Hueco Mundo arc), Kisuke (he definitely needs more story since he used to be a captain), and Yoruichi (already had a brief story, but she could be explained more). Finally, the history of these characters could have been revealed in the recent chapters of manga, but it will be a while before I know exactly what is happening (currently awaiting Volume 23 of the graphic novel). If the next movie isn’t what I expected, I will be happy anyway: Bleach is that good to keep watching until the very end.

  1. Probably not quite the right place to ask, but its as good as any. Is Bleach really that good of an anime? I’ve heard quite a bit about it, but that doesn’t always mean something is good.

@Skolor: It depends on your taste…when I started watching Bleach, I must admit it was a little boring, but it gets better around Episode 18. If you have the time to watch more than one episode, you could grow into it. Before I caught up to the anime, I would watch 2-3 episodes a day. In my opinion, I guess not many people are into Bleach because of Naruto… What I like about Bleach, personally, is that it reminds me of Dragonball Z, but without the screaming for 2 episodes straight and the fights lasting a few episodes longer, lol. The current story arc is pretty exciting and it looks like it will be a long arc..

  3. I can’t wait until the second movie gets picked up here in the US. I loved Memories of Nobody (and have it saved on a disc somewhere) but OMFG DiamondDust Rebellion is all about Toushirou! I am so rushing to see this if it does make it to theaters in the US. Even though, probably, by then I will have downloaded the movie (finally). I know Dattebayo has it on their torrents subbed right now.

Anyway, as much as I love Byakuya, I somehow doubt he’ll get a movie to himself, at least not at this point. It would have made sense for him to get a movie before Hitsugaya, but not after. I think the movies will be geared to expanding on the characters that haven’t gotten much by way of a back story in the anime and manga. Toushirou only got his back story in the manga as a tribute to the release of the movie after all. Where as, at the time the movie was released, we already had a back story for the shinigami who were patrolling Karakura while Ichigo was training with the Vizard. Matsumoto, Yumichika, Ikkaku, and Renji had all had brief back stories and hints of their past at this point, Toushiro was the only exception there.

As for Kisuke, I sincerely doubt he’ll get a movie centering around him, simply because, the current arc in the manga is centered on him right now. Him and the soon-to-be Vizard in any case. With that ambiguous “the man who started it all” comment about Kisuke at the beginning of the Pendulum Arc, it’s pretty clear he’s got the spotlight now. Likewise Yoruichi, Soi-Fong, (and noy Mayuri in the Pendulum Arc too!), Kenpachi, Tousen, Gin, Aizen, Byakuya, Captain Foxface (and to an extent Kyouraku and Ukitake) have all had some back-story time. The only captain I can think of who hasn’t is the captain commander (sort of) and captain-mom.

Personally, I would like to see a movie revolving around Isshin.

Great comment! I was going to add Isshin as a possibility too, but I thought he would eventually get some attention (other than making a fool of himself along with Yuzu and Karin) in the anime along with the Vizards.

  5. I’d like to see a movie made about Renji. I know there is plenty of info on him, but I’d like maybe just a little side-story or something made on him. But I also agree with Sanjo-chen. I went to Blech: Memories of Nobody (Awesome movie, definitely recommend it to all)but the theater wasn’t even half full. I was disappointed.

I loved Memories of Nobody, really the liked the reference to InuYasha with Sennas released zanpakto, not sure if it was deliberate but i liked it anyways. just watched second one and it was equally awesome. tons of Bankai !!!… :) not enough kenpachi imo… i think the next one will be a whole new story with little back story on any of the characters. we have gotten lots of info on the majority of them already. what ever they decide it is guaranteed to be amazing and i can’t wait… also saw a post about wanting info on kusuke… his story is being told now starting at episode 202 i believe. great back story on the vizards and a few of the captains we know now. only up to 209 so far but is looking to be an awesome set of episodes…
