What’s going on so far?:

Xam’d: Lost Memories is the latest project from Studio BONES, of Fullmetal Alchemist and Eureka Seven fame, partnered with AniPlex and Sony Computer Entertainment. This series can only be rented and viewed from Playstation Network’s new video store for $3.99 (HD only). I grabbed my credit card and added some cash to the Wallet to check it out. It could be worth the $4 per episode.

Recap

The series kicks off with a bunch of white haired girls (and maybe boys) receiving a ball filled with green goo from an old woman who puts them in their mouths. One of the girls we see getting the ball is also the key to the story, it seems. Then, we see a bunch of people on an airship who look like they’re a band of peacekeepers. One of them looks a lot like the girl in Eureka Seven (duh). She gets ready for a mission as her crew sends her down to a country with strict military rule. That’s where we see a boy, named Akiyuki, with very busy parents: his mother is just a normal house wife, and his father is a doctor who likes to sleep on the job…

On the way to school, he has to bring lunch to his father. Running late for school, he makes a mad dash to his father’s clinic. Arriving at the clinic, his friends notice his bike in front of the building as they walk to the bus stop–which heavily IDs students getting on the bus to prevent terrorist attacks. Hmm…

After having a brief chit-chat with his father, Akiyuki pedals it to the school bus, where he makes it on time. Remember that girl eating a ball of green goo I mentioned earlier? She’s there, in front of Akiyuki. Everyone on the bus is wearing school uniforms with armband IDs, while she is not. How is she going to get on the bus? Akiyuki helps her out by saying that he forgot his ID, and drops it in front of the girl, out of the guard’s sight.

Impressions

There’s more to this episode, but I’ll have to stop here to keep the show interesting. One thing’s for sure, I enjoyed the first episode of Xam’d, and I’m looking forward for more episodes–even if it costs me $4 per episode–and that I’ll have 14 days to watch it, along with a 24 hour limit if I start watching it. If you have $5 to spare (the minimum amount to put in your PSN Wallet), then I suggest checking it out. I hope it gets a DVD release soon.
