Story Synopses

Ji-Eun, a writer, travels to China for vacation. While on the flight, he meets the popular actor, Young-Jae. He finds Ji-Eun a bit troublesome, but puts up with her during the trip. While on her trip, Ji-Eun’s friends sells her home that her late father built.

While in China, Ji-Eun runs broke, and runs into Young-Jae, begging him to help her back home to Seoul. Back home, Ji-Eun finds out the house was sold without her consent. The new owner of the house happens to be a famous actor…Lee Young-Jae!

My Thoughts on Full House

Full House (not to get confused with the sitcom that aired on ABC in the 90s) is a great K-Drama for those who are looking for something different, including people who are new to Asian TV dramas. The series begins from the get go when Ji-Eun and Young-Jae meet for the first time several minutes into the first episode. Seems like an ordinary encounter on any other TV show, but watching as the story progress makes the show addicting, especially with Rain and Song Hye-Kyo’s performance.

Later episodes keeps a steady pace, but eventually it gets annoying, not to mention when Young-Jae gets upset after arguing with Ji-Eun, and searches around his room for something to throw in frustration–noticeably.

This is Rain’s second K-Drama, with Let’s Go to School, Sang-Doo! as his first TV appearance. Full House is one of my favorite K-Drama featuring Rain. If you’re a hardcore Rain fan, there’s also “A Love to Kill”. Sadly, it doesn’t appeal to casual Rain fans, due to the show’s dark theme. I highly recommend Full House (and Sang-Doo) if you’re a Rain newbie, or a Drama junkie.

Conclusion

This wraps up the Real TV Shows From the East You Should Watch series. I bet you’re wondering where in the world I found these really good dramas. I’ll tell you how!

Online

There are many places online where you can find information on the latest dramas airing in Korea, Japan, and China. D-Addicts has a forum for drama discussion, a wiki with all the info of just about every single drama around, and the most important of all: a tracker to download the latest drama to watch at your leisure. If torrents don’t work for you, there’s MySoju.com.

If you rather buy a series (which is the better thing to do), there are a few places online you can purchase them. I highly recommend YesAsia. It’s the where all the hardcore Asian drama fans get their favorite shows. YesAsia even has an entertainment division dedicated to bringing popular dramas over to the states: YA Entertainment. The Right Stuf International often carry these titles as well, especially if you’re a member of their “Got Anime?” discount club (Note: I don’t think the drama qualifies for the discount, but it’s just a heads up if you decide to buy anime as well).

Unfortunately, not all dramas are licensed by YA Entertainment or another distrubutor, meaning you have to buy the original series itself directly; as in non-English subbed, expensive, Region 2 or 3 DVDs. It’s worth it if you understand the languages, but you’re better off finding a fansubbed version. :(
