[Review] Bleach – The DiamondDust Rebellion (Movie)

Summary:
The second Bleach movie fans (especially Hitsugaya fans) have been waiting for is finally here on DVD! Is it better than Memories of Nobody? Let’s find out! ^o^
Warning: This post contains spoilers! Read at your own risk!
Review:
The movie begins with a huge ceremony that is taking place in the sky (kind of reminds me of an episode of Inuyasha). Squad 10 is sent out to look after security during the event. The ceremony involves moving a valuable artifact called “The King’s Seal” to a new location from its original area after a few decades of rest.
Things seem to be going well–until security is breached by two girls who look like the Arrancar, then by a mysterious young man. Hitsugaya jumps into action to prevent any further destruction. But when Toushirou takes a good look at the man, he looks back at Matsumoto and begins to chase after him, leaving her to worry…
On the way home from a hollow slaying, Ichigo runs into a force field that he cuts open, revealing the chaos of the ceremony in Soul Society. Soifon and her soldiers surround Ichigo and briefs him of the situation, then he sends him back to the world of the living, where he runs into Uryuu–and an injured Toushirou.
Soifon meets Captain Yamamoto and the remaining Captains on the sudden disappearance of Captain Hitsugaya, along with an order to search for him–even if it means killing him in the process. Poor Matsumoto… She wants to take responsibility for the situation, but the rank of Vice Captain isn’t enough for such a problem.
Thanks to Hitsugaya, the members of Squad 10 are forced to turn in their Zanpakutou as the entire squad is put under house arrest. Why would he abandon his fellow squad members like that?! Before Rangiku is sent away, Rukia and Renji agrees to search for clues of Toushirou’s whereabouts, discreetly.
After a dream involving the mysterious boy (who kinda looks like a younger Byakuya), Hitsugaya finds himself in Ichigo’s room. After upsetting Ichigo by not thanking him for saving his life, he waits for the right time to sneak out and continue his search for Kusaka…the boy who took the King’s Seal–and an old friend.
He doesn’t get very far: Ichigo encounters Toushirou right outside the clinic, where he is forced into a fight to brush off Ichigo–then the two Arrancar/Vizard-ish girls from earlier! Ichigo uses his best moves to stop Captain Hitsugaya from getting away and to ward off the girls. Unfortunately, Ichigo gets knocked out of commission and Hitsugaya manages to get away, but the girls lose sight of him and returns to their master (Kusaka) empty handed.

From here on, the movie is mostly consists talking, but at least it’s not boring as we see Soul Society’s very own Captain Kyoraku and Captain Ukitake later on! Just about everyone who is involved with Soul Society’s politics are in deep discussions about why Hitsugaya abandoned his squad. From Renji to Ichigo; Ichigo to Kisuke; Kyoraku to Matsumoto.
Also, this is where the movie gets better for Byakuya fans: he finally gets the attention he deserves! He only had a few lines in the first movie. But in this one, his role is somewhat important to the plot… Tourshirou usually does these kind of things, but since he has a bounty on his head, Byakuya takes over and teams up with Ukitake to meet with Mayuri to find information of Hyourinmaru and Hitsugaya’s possible whereabouts.
Meanwhile back on earth, Ichigo and Rukia engage in a fight between Kusaka and his Arrancar/Vizard girls. But there’s a huge problem…Kusaka uses Hyourinmaru’s coldest attack ever to freeze Ichigo, leaving Rukia to fight alone with the two girls while he seeks out Toushirou.
But… Ichigo can’t die yet! He is reunited with an image of his very own Zanpakutou… IT’S ZANGETSU! When was the last time we saw him? Has it been like two years?
After Ichigo reminiscences of that one tragic rainy day when his mother passed away, Zangetsu encourages him to continue. A renewed Ichigo returns in Bankai mode to kick major butt!
My analysis of Bleach – The DiamondDust Rebellion: I’m afraid I have to end the review right here. I really don’t want to giveaway the ending for those who really want to see it. There’s always room for discussion if anyone want to know what really happens.
Although I must say that it didn’t disappoint me one bit and It’s more entertaining than the first movie. The year of waiting paid off! Although we finally get to see more of a younger Hitsugaya, they could have provided the viewers with an in-depth background (and it wouldn’t hurt to show Hinamori just once instead of mentioning her name a few times). But at least we get to see how Toushirou got his Zanpakutou. I wonder what would it be like if he didn’t have Hyourinmaru to begin with? Next up: Fade to Black in 2009!

I enjoyed DiamondDust Rebellion a lot as well. Lots of Ichigo and Toushirou interaction, and since I’m a yaoi fangirl and like this pairing, you can imagine how much my inner-fangirl squealed. Besides, any time these two interact is always priceless.
Oi, Toushirou!
It’s Hitsugaya-TAICHOU!
XD Never gets old.
I really loved the soundtrack for this movie though. I had to download it as soon as it was available online. Finally got some of the cool music we’ve seen in the series, but not on the other soundtracks, as well as the new songs introduced for the movie.

Personally, I was disappointed with the pairing of Ichigo and Hitsugaya in the movie, maybe because every time someone got near them, Toshirou would go ballistic, lol. But the ending where Ichigo slaps some sense into Shiro-chan was a surprise. XD
I never paid much attention to the music, but it made the intensity of the movie different from the anime series. That’s something to think about. Perhaps I’ll check out the soundtrack of the first movie as well. ^^

I was disappointed by this movie. Many questions were left unanswered to its viewer.
1) What is wrong with having two similar sword?
2) What was wrong with Kosaka’s motive?
3) Why did toshiro help Kosaka and suddenly fights him?

dear TK60412!
disapointed!? what it clearly means that you didnt watch the movie clearly….diamond dust rebelion is such a great movie
1)”What is wrong with having two similar sword?” its their law
2)”What was wrong with Kosaka’s motive?” every thing! why should he take advantage of hitsugaya!
3)”Why did toshiro help Kosaka and suddenly fights him?” you clearly did not pay attention! he did not help kusuka! he does not want the others to be invloved!

Yo.
Didn’t see ur comment until I googled myself.
1) It’s their law, but why implement such law? In other words, did they even have a rational reason for the motive behind the law? to me, it just seems like the movie just throws stuff at you and expect you to agree with it, and when you have thinkers watching the movie, it pisses them off.
2)Kosaka didn’t take advantage of Hitsugaya. They were friends, and because of the law, Kosaka was forced to act that way. What the movie should have attacked was not Kosaka, but the law that makes no sense. What is wrong with two people having the same sword?
3)”clearly did not pay attention” . I would wonder why? The movie is so disappointing that near the end, I just stopped thinking which was what I felt like the movie was trying to make me do right from the start. lol

Hey, hey, Vince and TK60412, everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. However, I do agree with Vince: they explained everything at the end.
ANYWAY, personally, I liked this movie a lot. I wondered why Hinamori didn’t show up at least once during the movie, though. It would have been nice, but I still liked it far better than Memories of Nobody (though I did full out start crying towards the end of Memories of Nobody.) I agree that I wish they could have shown a bit more about Toushirou’s past, but I guess we have the drama CD and the navigation CD for that. OH, and Bleach chapter -15. My IchiHitsu fangirl was screaming when I watching too, though I do like Kusaka better than Ichigo from what I’ve seen of the drama CD’s. Poor guy.
I loved the second movie soundtrack, it was far more interesting than the first one and really dragged at my attention. Great job, Sagisu-san!
Plus, the voice-acting. I listened to the entire movie without looking at the animations just to see what it really sounded like, and boy did the raw emotion just catch me.
ANYHOW, I’ve rambled on long enough.
