Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam II: Lovers (Movie) [Review]

Warning: This post contains spoilers! Read at your own risk!
I recently finished watching the second Zeta Gundam movie, “Lovers”. This one is better than the first one, because…Well, it was the first movie based on the first 15-ish episodes of the original series.
“Lovers” also has a theme: that is the main characters falling in love with the female characters, or visa-versa. The first person to fall in love is Kamille and a new recruit from the Murasume Laboratory, Four Murasame; Yes, as in the number “4″, being the fourth test subject for the Murasame Labs. She’s a pilot developed solely for war: Newtypes, and is pilot of the Psycho Gundam.
She had no sense of emotions until she met Kamille, she became a whole different person–until her a few of her Titan friends attacked the colony. Thanks to the attacks, she goes insane and tries to erase any memory of meeting Kamille.
Later, a Titan spy who works under Scirocco (Another bad guy from the Titans), Sarah Zabiarov, is captured and is put under custody by the AEUG. Another character from the first Gundam series, Katz Kobayashi, falls under Sarah’s spell (read: in love) and messes up big time by letting her go against the AEUG’s orders and is punished for his reckless actions. Sarah returns later in the movie where she is put under arrest, again by Kamille–this time after she blows up a colony.
This movie makes the first appearance of Mirai (Noa) Yashima since the first Gundam series, along with her children, Chiemin and Hathaway. During the movie, Bright is seen watching a video telegram of them on a laptop (which look awfully a lot like an iMac) during a meeting. And even with two crazy women who happen to hang out with the wrong crowd, Kamille is aware that Fa (Kamille’s “girlfriend”) is still alive.
My analysis of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam II: Lovers:
Yup, the subtitle “Lovers” says it all. Despite the romantic encounters, the action is the same as in the first movie, especially when Four and Kamille is involved. Amuro makes another appearance in this movie, but is pushed aside when Four is introduced. The only character from the first Gundam that has yet to make an appearance is Sayla Mass, aka Char’s long lost sister, Artesia.
The third and last Zeta Gundam movie is next: “Love is the Pulse of the Stars”. In the next movie, the next major villain (next to Char by that definition) of the Universal Century, Haman Karn will be properly introduced.
