Chattanooga Anime/Manga Club

I went to the first ever meeting of the temporarily named “Books-A-Million Anime/Manga Club Extravaganza” at the aforementioned store this weekend. This is the first Anime Club in the Tennessee Valley, and I think it’s been a long time coming. It was put together by fellow Otaku and BAM Employee Nick to bring Chattanooga area Otaku together until the 2010 convention.
Just like the photo above from Genshiken*, we sat around for about a hour and a half talking (sans watching) about what we love most: Anime! The group talked about Chattanooga’s first Anime convention, JAMPcon; who went in 2008 and what is being planned for 2010. We were also handed a few JAMPcon goodies such as business cards that can be passed to friends or to a potential con-goer. ^^
Other topics include Anime series people liked, and series that they watched all the way through then ended up hating it after it was all over (a lot of people said Sailor Moon, including myself…). Cosplay members have done in the past or plan to do in the future, past conventions attended, and so on. Pretty much what you would hear at a club meeting.
Anyone living in the Tennessee Valley and missed out on the meeting, there will be other gatherings every other Saturday at 3 PM, including meetups at the Bicentennial Library in Downtown Chattanooga for Anime @ The Library on the first Saturdays of every month. This is my first time attending an Anime Club meeting, and it will definitely pass the time until JAMPcon 2010. ^_^
*I started to bring a camera with me to the club meeting, but I don’t think the BAM employees would like us taking random pictures around the store.

Wow! First off, I am loving this site! I’m going to have to explore it for sure.
I just have a few things to add to your post. Technically, the club isn’t put on by the staff of JAMPcon. It’s organized by me, with help from Books-A-Million. We do have a very close relationship with JAMPcon, though. I just don’t want them to have to be blamed for any mistakes I make. lol
And you should totally bring your camera! We don’t mind at all people taking pictures…in fact, I’d love to have more pictures to add to our MySpace page when it gets up and running.
Oh, and meetings are every Saturday, except for when we all go to Anime @ the Library.
Thanks so much for writing this, and for managing to make sense of the meeting!

No problem! I will fix the explanation of who actually started the club (I misread the conception by assuming the club was created to pass the time until JAMPcon ‘10. Sorry about that!). I’ll be sure to bring my camera to the next meeting and upload it to my own gallery to share, if you don’t mind.
I can also email you the original photos for the MySpace page since all my photos are watermarked. ^^;

Hey, don’t worry about it. lol Like I said, I just don’t want the great JAMPcon staff to have to take the blame for anything I screw up. And please, feel free to upload the pictures in to your gallery, I’ve got no problem with that at all. And I would really appreciate being allowed to use the pictures on the MySpace page.
