Fullmetal Alchemist State Alchemy Exam [Review]

To add to the growing line of Anime apps for the iPhone (and iPod Touch) is the Fullmetal Alchemist State Alchemy Exam. It’s the first Fullmetal Alchemist app for the iPhone from Appliya in conjunction with FUNimation.

As the app’s name is implied, the State Alchemy Exam is filled with exam questions inspired from the series. Not just from the series, but with [educational] questions like the symbol for Aluminum and the three states of matter. The exam host is Edward Elric himself, who gives you a thumbs up if you answer a question correctly or gets irritated when it’s incorrect. But get three questions wrong, you lose.

Answering all the questions correctly unlocks additional modes. Completing the exam in either Easy, Medium, and Hard modes rewards you exam certificates along with wallpapers from the series. As in just about every iPhone game, you can also post your high score online via OpenFeint.
As a Fullmetal Alchemist fan, I am excited that a FMA-centric app is (finally) on the App Store. There are, however, a few problems. It has the tendency to crash at random time. It’s not a huge deal as it can be fixed via updates. But improvements could have been made to the selection of wallpapers.
