There’s a new movie in the works from the legendary Tim Burton, the producer of The Nightmare Before Christmas (as played in the game, Kingdom Hearts), Corpse Bride, and Coraline. Tim teams up with director Shane Acker for the animated feature, 9.

The movie is about a mad scientist who develops an artificial brain in the event of the world’s end—but it turns out the brain actually marks the end of mankind. The result brings to life 9 little robotic sack dolls (think LittleBigPlanet) who must save the world from the evil brain. The cast includes Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, and Crispin Glover.

The movie is scheduled for a September 9th, 2009 (*9-9-09*) release. More information and the trailer can be viewed on 9′s official website. Also for Facebook users: befriend the scientist on his Facebook page to find out more of 9′s backstory.
