Boogie BAM Anime Jam Cosplay Contest

On May 30th, the Boogie BAM Anime Jam (BBAMAJAM) Club held their first Cosplay Contest at Books-A-Million’s Gunbarrel Road location. The huge turnout (approximately 25 local Otaku) made the experience a whole lot enjoyable then originally thought! ^_^

The cosplay contest is also where I finally debuted my long awaited Iruka Umino costume (on the very left next to Bou (Kym), a former member of the Visual Kei band, An Cafe), along with my custom made Ninja sandals I showed off in Issue #1 of Cosplay Corner.

The contest started with a “parade” of cosplayers around the Magazine section back to the Manga area. Participants were interviewed and went through the usual cosplay contest procedures. Later, the cosplayers walked to the front of the store to greet the everyone equipped with blank stares around Joe Muggs and it was back to the club meeting area to await results…

Until we get to the winners, here’s a “parade” of photos taken during the contest. Check out additional photos on the Gallery page and on BBAMAJAM’s MySpace page. For the Camera Otaku: some of the photos (with the CEN.TAKU.ME watermark) were taken with a Sanyo E760.

Update: added a link to more photos from Bluesphx’sFlickr page. Thanks, Zippy!

After the judging was complete, it was time to announce the winners. The prizes for the winners was as follows:

  • 1st Place: One free Manga, plus a large drink (for life-ish) from Joe Muggs Coffee
  • 2nd Place: One free Manga
  • 3rd Place: A free large drink from Joe Muggs

There were so many entries, so many good costumes under many categories. So six winners were chosen; 3 in each category as follows:

  1. Hunk (Biohazard/Resident Evil)
  2. Maid Mikuru (Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
  3. Iruka Umino (Naruto)

After the winners were announced, we had our usual meeting with the club’s main event: Show-and-Tell (showing off various Otaku swag), but, of course, it ran short this time around. All-in-all, BBAMAJAM’s first cosplay contest was a huge success! It was also an honor of winning my first cosplay contest! ^_^

If you missed it, there will be another contest in the future. I will keep everyone informed. I can’t wait to see new cosplays, and perhaps I will introduce a new costume. ^_^
