JapanSoc: Social Bookmarking for Japan Enthusiasts

2009-03-15_00002

Last month, Jamaipanese invited me to join a J-Blogger community called JapanSoc. It’s a Social Bookmarking community for people who are into Japanese culture, and it serves as an important tool for bloggers who blog about all things Japan (aka “J-Bloggers”).

JapanSoc’s (the “Soc” pronounced “Sock” and is short for “Society”) CMS (Content Management System) is based off the popular Social Media site, Digg. But it’s better than Digg: it’s designed for Japan-related blogs and articles. Plus the community is awesome and very helpful (unlike Digg where its fanbase seem to punish unsuspecting members who post “bad stories” or for promoting their own content).

All members are encouraged to participate and engage in promoting stories, [if they like it]. You could promote your own post on JSoc, but keep in mind that you can install the provided JapanSoc Vote Widget on your entry (template) page (just like Digg’s Vote button!) and have your friends promote your story! ;)

In addition to JapanSoc.com, there’s also JapanSoc.org. It’s a Google Group for the main JapanSoc website where other J-Bloggers meet and arrange blog events online (and offline), such as the monthly Japan Blog Matsuri and the J-Blogger Conference hosted on EduFire.

If you’ve been to Japan, plan on visiting, are already a citizen/visitor of Japan, and/or a Japan enthusiast, then come on over and join us! I’m also on JapanSoc. Feel free to add me (Sanjochan) to your friends list! ^_^
