This just in: ANN reports that ADV is ceasing publication of its English adaption of the Japanamation magazine, Newtype USA, in February. Reasons are unknown for the suspension, but ADV plans to replace Newtype with another magazine. So, it has come to this; the end of Newtype USA. I’ve been wondering about this for sometime, as the official NTUSA MySpace page hasn’t been updated its profile picture of January’s issue.

Now that I think about it, Otaku USA has better coverage than NTUSA. All Newtype did was plug reviews and posters for ADV properties. Otaku USA is all about Japanese culture. Otaku USA covers a few extra topics you wouldn’t find in Animerica (another magazine favored by fans that died several years ago), and Newtype USA, which I must admit is worth the money. After reading Otaku USA, I have thought about discontinuing future purchases of Newtype, but now there’s a reason to quit reading. It’s sad to see Newtype USA go off into the sunset, but perhaps it’s for the better.
