Real TV Shows From the East You Should Watch: It Started with a Kiss

The second installment of Real TV Shows From the East You Should Watch is about the Taiwanese drama, It Started with a Kiss, that aired in 2006. This is also based on a popular Japanese manga, recently turned anime series.

Series: It Started with a Kiss (惡作劇之吻/恶作剧之吻)
Station: CTV
Original Air Date: September 25th, 2005 – Febuary 12th, 2006
Episodes: 20

Main Cast

Ariel Lin as Yuan Xiang Qin

Joe Cheng as Jiang Zhi Shu

Synopsis:

The story of “It Started with a Kiss” starts off with a girl named Xiang Qin handing a letter to Zhi Shu, the most popular student in school. He notices her holding out the letter as he passes by, but he doesn’t acknowledge her. Stunned, Xiang Qin thinks of Zhi Shu as a jerk and attempts to cut off ties with him by ignoring him, or even moving far away from him, if she has to.

Later, an earthquake destroys her home, displacing her and her father, forcing them to find another place to live. Ah Li, an old buddy of Xiang Qin’s father, offers them their house as a permanent living home. Unknowingly to Xiang Qin, the family they move in with happens to be the house of Jiang Zhi Shu!

My Thoughts of It Started with a Kiss:

The series starts off pretty well, and gets better around the 5th episode. Some parts can be very slow, and it noticeably starts tapering off around the 14th episode. Despite the sluggish pace, there are still key points to Xiang Qin and Zhi Shu’s rocky relationship, which is very important to the storyline. The acting is decent, but some parts of it can be cheesy.

This series should be watched when there no other drama series to watch: the series is 20 episodes long, including a second season, “They Kissed Again!”, which is also 20 episodes along. Does the plot of “It Started with a Kiss” sound familiar to you? The story is based on a popular Shoujo manga, Itazura na Kiss, which also got an anime adaption this summer, and is currently airing on Japanese TV.

Check back for the final installment of Real TV Shows From the East You Need to Watch next week!

  • No problem! The point of this post was to inform others of other TV shows, in this case, Asian TV dramas, from eastern countries other than popular anime, or TV shows in the US and other countries. Glad you liked it!
