I’ve noticed a few situations when it comes to letting out your passion for something you love. It ranges from being an Anime Otaku, or an avid gamer. Not only this is limited to video gaming, but all kinds of fandom, especially with Anime fans. One scenario in the Anime fandom are “imperfect” cosplayers. “Imperfect” as in being a tad bit overweight or different from the original character. (Mild NSFW warning, I think..) The cosplayer has every right to dress up as whoever they like, but there are times where the cosplayer needs to think twice before putting on a skimpy outfit. If they decide to put on that costume that’s a tad too tight, it may not be perfect to the eyes of the purists (and embarrassing to the cosplayer), but it may turn out to be a fun experience…

Here are some 3 Common Problems in Geekdom. As little word of warning: this post may insult some people, but this post was meant to clear all of that up up, so to speak. :-)

Founder of Akibanana Interviewed on ReadWriteWeb

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 | Anime & Manga with No Comments »

2008-06-22_00001 Founder of Akibanana Interviewed on ReadWriteWeb Web Technology blog ReadWriteWeb posted an interview with upcoming entrepreneur, Jane Fong, the founder of Akibanana. Akibanana is a blog centering on everything that brings Akihabara together, such as Anime, Cosplay, Maid Cafes and Games (that sounds kind of familiar, doesn’t it?). Not only does she keep fellow Otaku updated with the current events in the anime town that never sleeps, she also aims to bring anime to the online driven masses, and to provide tours of Akiba to fans who have yet to master the Japanese language. The article also highlights the status of female entrepreneurs all over the world, and especially in Japan. This article is a must read for those (especially women, such as myself) who want to get into the Otaku market.

PiQ Looks Away

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008 | Anime & Manga with No Comments »

2008-06-17_00001-325x390 PiQ Looks Away The new Entertainment magazine “PiQ” that replaced NewType USA, is ending next month. The July 2008 issue will be it’s last. The discontinuation of the publication is due to the lack revenue and bad management. But the possible reason is due to the lack of interest; not only the magazine left us with the good things that made NewType USA, Anime & Manga, it contained extra content for fans of American pop culture. Not just for Otaku. Current subscribers of PiQ/NewType USA will be given details soon on compensation. The magazine made an announcement on the website:

We, the editorial/creative/production staff, did the best we could to put together a quality publication, but as we’ve discovered, without a good financial backing, it’s all an exercise in futility.

The CEN.TAKU.ME Manga Library

Friday, February 1st, 2008 | Features with 3 Comments

Ever wanted to see what my manga collection was like? Well, here it is! I wanted to do this kind of post for a while, after watching a video created by Otaku Vlogger, Naruto is my Brother, on his impressive collection. Unfortunately, I do not have a decent video cam for my own video, so I settled with a few pictures–along with an Excel spreadsheet of my growing library. Here are a few Before and After pictures, taken with my camera phone, of the collection I had before I moved in 2006, and the collection I have right now in 2008:

After

Wow! What an accomplishment! All of that could fit inside one 62 qt. box. If I were to move again anytime soon, I would need at least three boxes, plus and another bookshelf! Pardon the mess…See the difference in the second picture? That was taken in March ‘07, right after I put everything in place after moving out of my old, smaller room. In the third photo, I have alot of manga that I haven’t had the chance to put away. The stack you see of the left are all my Bleach manga volumes I purchased in November. Volumes 8-21, including 1-7 (on the top shelf) I bought when Waldenbooks closed. Good times. The ones you see left are some of my Naruto and Genshiken copies that are unread. Pretty impressive, huh? Now all I need to do it read them all. ^_^;

Top 5 Series for Hardcore Otaku

Friday, August 31st, 2007 | Anime & Manga with No Comments »

Holy cow! It’s been about a week since I’ve made an entry that wasn’t about WoW. I have made a list of top 5 anime that is “Otaku friendly”. As in anime that is worthy of being defended by losers with nothing better to do than flame others on internet message boards for disliking it. Without further ado, here is the Top 5 Series for Hardcore (or shall I say, “Haddo-kore”) Otaku. A word of warning: If you find this post offensive, then stop reading it and go find something to do other than beating up other fans. ;)
