That Darn Guild!
You may have been wondering why I haven’t updated anything about my progress in World of Warcraft for a couple of weeks. Perhaps it’s because I couldn’t get into Karazhan, and I ended up moping around since that day. Not really. Although, maybe there is a reason while I haven’t been playing: My guild was holding me back! After a little incident with a friend who was also in the guild, now I don’t have to worry about them anymore.
I could not enter the popular raid instance, Karazhan, because I did not meet the equipment requirements. The reason: my equips were below par from the guild’s recommendation. The guild is big on decent gear – preferably purple “Epic” gear, and it is mandatory that the gear be enchanted. The guild kicked a couple of my friends a few days ago, including my warlock, due to a disagreement with the raid leader.
I am actually a bit relived that this happened. Since I joined this guild, I had a bad feeling about them. They are all just a bunch of high-and-mighty WoW veterans, who would play a “game” where the guild officers would keeping kicking the member out of the guild until he decided not to let him back in. Now I do not have to dread seeing the guild chat filled with purple links from the raid leader who couldn’t let me in. It was ridiculous. I am sorry that they were kicked, but this gives me another understanding to the guild’s motives.
This guild has done Karazhan hundreds of times since the release of Burning Crusade. I am sure many of the core raiders have the same gear that has dropped already. My dream of returning to Kansas were for naught. :’( Don’t get me wrong. I have learned my lesson, especially since I have been a high level for four days, in-game (or three months real time). In my previous post, I said it was dumb to run regular instances just to get gear over coming into Karazhan just for a piece or two. Doing instances is a way to keep the game fun if you know what you and your group is doing. Enchanted gear is the way to go in any situation (especially being a low level character). As for the guild’s corrupt policies and raiding ethics, doing an instance that you’ve done a billion times and inviting veteran Karazhan raiders, but one Priest with greens who was keyed the same week I was attuned and a warlock with similar gear as me, was very disappointing. Getting Heroic gear is better than regular level 70 instances, but it is hard when you find a group that will break up as soon as the party enters the dungeon. Also getting reputation to get into a heroic instance can become repetitive after a while…
As of today, I am no longer associated with the guild, I can now focus on gearing up without looking at “Nyah-nyah! I got [Wicked Witch's Hat] and you didn’t!” in guild chat.
