The Winter 2012/2013 Anime Lineup

Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun

A month late to talk about the latest season of anime series, but it’s given me time to watch at least an episode or two of one anime from the lineup to decide if it’s worth the time this Winter.

There’s not a lot that interests me too much on this year’s list, with the exception of their interesting titles: Mangirl!, appearing to be a latest entry into the moé category which is about a group of “Japan’s cutest manga editors” with the desire of launching the “#1 manga magazine”, despite having no experience in editing manga. Without looking at the synopsis, it would sound like a totally different anime altogether, if it weren’t for the title…

An anime I’ve had the opportunity to watch a couple of episodes of is Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They? (Mondai-Ji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?), which is about three youths sent from their own worlds into a fantasy world (which might be thought of as a crossover between .hack//SIGN and Alice in Wonderland) by a mysterious girl who goes by the name of Black Rabbit in efforts to thwart the plans of the devil.

One more series of interest is Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun, which features a mostly Bishounen cast (yay!). Besides that fact, the story is a supernatural re-imagining of the Hakkenden samurai novels about eight half-brothers with familiar elements of the Sengoku period. It also includes elements that border on Yokai, which may or may not be a deal breaker–in before cute males. ^_^
