WordPress 2.7: “Coltrane” Released

The newest version of the WordPress blogging software, 2.7; codename “Coltrane”, was released today.

2.7 has a brand new Administrator interface, along with a few features such as QuickPress, comment threading, and the ability to reply to comments from the dashboard, which eliminates the need for the Better Comments Manager plugin that is used on this blog for a while.

WP 2.7 (finally) has a built in upgrade tool inspired by the Automatic WordPress Upgrade plugin that was originally developed by a WordPress team member, and is officially included as part of the software.

CTM has yet to upgrade to 2.7, but it will be done eventually after making sure the theme meets the coding changes.

Holy fscking crap. I knew about the comment built-in thingie, but an auto-upgrade? Wow. I am staying off 2.7 for a while. Auto-upgrades usually mean they break every other plugin I have each time they upgrade. :\

I will probably wait for a long while before I upgrade to 2.7. I especially want the plugins to have time to upgrade themselves to be consistent with 2.7.

I was surprised they gave the backend such a drastic makeover since it is just a 2.7 release. But, once my initial and natural resistance to change wore off, I found I really like the new dashboard stuff — and it’s so sleek. It works 100% fine for me btw =)

So when is starcraft 2 coming out anyway. Any mention of starcraft ruffles my feathers, I hate late games…Sweet blog though, keep it up!

@ Panther, Shay and Jamaipanese: I’ve tried 2.7 on a localhost (WAMP) installation and it is indeed much better than 2.5. I have yet to upgrade it for this blog though..I’ll wait it out until 2.7.1.

@ System Requirements: Hm, I haven’t heard anything about SC2′s release date. It’s still TBA. -_-
